A 38-year-old man pleaded guilty this morning to an amended charge related to accusations that he headbutted a 12-year-old boy.

Eric Douglas Kester, Fargo, was initially charged in Cass County District Court with felony child abuse, but the charge was reduced to misdemeanor contributing to the deprivation of a minor.

Kester was arrested May 14 after police were called to his residence about 7:26 p.m. His attorney, Monty Mertz, said Kester accidentally bumped heads with the child and authorities found no evidence of injuries on the child.

Kester apologized before being sentenced, saying "I'm sorry for this ever happening."

Kester received a 12-month deferred sentence and 12 months of unsupervised probation. He must complete anger management and continue counseling, a judge ordered.
