Erickson and the U.S. national team defeated Canada 5-2 Saturday night to claim the International Ice Hockey Federation World Women's Under-18 Championship at Calgary, Alberta.

The U.S. won all five of its games in the tournament.

Erickson, a senior at Bemidji High School, helped the U.S. make the championship game with an 8-0 victory over the Czech Republic in Friday's semifinals. She had a goal and an assist and was named U.S. player of the game.

Erickson's goal came on the power play when she picked up a rebound and lifted it over the Czech goaltender. It put the U.S. ahead 2-0.

In Saturday's final, the United States took a 4-0 lead, with Erickson assisting on the third goal. The Canadians cut the lead to 4-2 early in the third period, but the Americans put the game out of reach with a power-play goal midway through the final frame.

Erickson, named captain of the U.S. team, was a standout throughout the event, recording five goals and four assists.
