Elvert Leroy Stenevik, 85, of Park Rapids died Friday, May 4, 2007 at the SCCI Hospital in Fargo.

He was born Dec. 10, 1921 in Green Valley Township, Becker County to Arne Syvert and Anna (Hagen) Stenevik. He grew up in Straight River Township and attended many local country schools.

He worked for the Co-Op Station in Park Rapids and Detroit Lakes. He also delivered newspapers in Park Rapids.

He married Ida R. Kruft Jan. 18, 1942 in Henrietta Township. He was drafted into the US Army in September 1942. He served as a truck driver in campaigns across Europe during World War II. He was honorably discharged in October 1945.

They moved to St. Paul, where he worked at an Excelsior mill. In April 1946, he began working at the Ford Motor Company's St. Paul plant. He retired in April 1976.

They returned to Park Rapids in 1983, living at their home on Lake Emma until 1999 when they moved to Green Valley Township. They spent many winters in the South and Southwest.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church at Wolf Lake and served on many different church boards. He also was a member of Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post 212 of Park Rapids and the United Auto Workers.

Surviving are his wife; daughters, Kathie Jensen of Detroit Lakes, Carol (Todd) Stark of Bloomington and Betty (Mark) Raasch of St. Paul; three granddaughters, three great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Arnold Stenevik, and son-in-law, David Jensen.

Visitation: One-half hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral: 10:30 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Christ Lutheran Church in Wolf Lake. Rev. John Ramsbacher will officiate. Paul Ramsey will be the organist. Congregational hymns will be "How Great Thou Art," "Rock of Ages," "Abide With Me" and "Just As I Am."

Active casketbearers: Dennis and Jerry Hagen, Frank and Jim Kruft, Virgil Myers and Tom Schackman.

Interment: Henrietta Township Cemetery near Dorset.
