Edwald Barney Hellmann, 84, of Guthrie died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008 at his home.
He was born Nov. 26, 1923 in Stearns County to John and Teresa (Joa) Hellmann. He lived in Richmond, where he attended elementary school. He also lived in Farmington, Little Falls, South St. Paul and Sausalito, CA.
He served in the US Army and received the American Theater Service Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Ribbon. After the service he returned to St. Cloud, then lived in Kelliher and Minneapolis.
He married Catherine Young Oct. 2, 1948 in Iowa. They lived in Crystal, Annandale, Laporte and Guthrie.
He worked 17 years as foreman at Fruen Milling Co. in Minneapolis, owned Deer Trail Resort on Kabekona Lake for six years and worked as a custodian for Bemidji State University for 13 years, retiring Dec. 1, 1985.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Gerald) Rockstad of Lake Elizabeth, CA, and Dianne (Tobin Judd) Lundeen of Bemidji; one son, Michael of Guthrie; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; brothers, Arthur Gregor and Edwald in infancy and sisters, Freda Countryman and Loretta Ranier.
Funeral: Friday, Jan. 25 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji with Father Vincent Miller officiating.
Casket bearers: Tobin Judd, Gerald Rockstad, Shawn Ludwig and Josh, Crystal and Chuck Lundeen.
Interment: Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji.
