The Menahga School Board is requesting proposals from two to three consultant firms, including the Minnesota School Boards Association (MSBA), to assist with finding a new superintendent.
They held a special meeting Nov. 4 to decide how to move forward with the search process.
Superintendent Kevin Wellen will retire Dec. 31.
Board chair Andrea Haverinen said Wellen must be retired for 24 hours before the district could re-hire him as an interim superintendent and finish out the school district’s fiscal year (Jan. through June 2022). “That could be an option,” she said.
Haverinen speculated it was not realistic to post the superintendent position internally.
She proposed hiring a firm to help search for a full-time superintendent, with a hire date of July 1, 2022.
The board passed a motion to request proposals from consultant firms, which are due by the Nov. 22 board meeting. MSBA is also capable of helping the school board.
The board also approved the purchase of a used 2019 Ram truck, costing $24,499, plus tax and license. It will replace a non-repairable truck.
