The Park Rapids Area High School varsity speech team took first place in the mid-size school category Saturday, March 27 in Melrose, their last tournament of the season before subsections.
According to speech coach Tanya Miller, the team placed ninth out of 46 schools overall, including several AA schools.
“Every one of the team members earned points for the team,” said Miller, recognizing the following team members for their achievements:
Nadia Yliniemi, first place, poetry.
Desarae Kohrs, second, storytelling and second, improvisational speaking.
Emma Ravnaas, second, poetry.
Maeve Bolton, fifth, creative expression.
Jack Worner, seventh, extemporaneous reading.
Kiergon Wilkins, first, honor finals for discussion.
Nadia Yliniemi, second, honor finals for prose.
Brenna Behrens, seventh, honor finals for extemporaneous reading and student of distinction.
Reese Hanson, honorable mention for prose.
Mackenzie LaFerriere, honorable mention for prose.
