A children’s “summer camp” started July 27 in the MAHUBE-OTWA Head Start program and continues until Aug. 7.
A total of approximately 64 children are enrolled in the two-week program in Mahnomen, Detroit Lakes, Frazee and Park Rapids. According to Liz Kuoppala with MAHUBE-OTWA Community Action Partnership, Park Rapids accounts for 22 of those children.
The kindergarten-age children receive six hours of programming each day, Monday through Friday. Funding is provided through the U.S. Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) Act.
A press release from the five-county agency states that MAHUBE-OTWA Head Start has revised its programming options to implement health and safety practices for the COVID-19 pandemic. Childcare group sizes are limited to 10 children or fewer, as recommended by the Minnesota Department of Health, with family support home visits occurring virtually.
