Dr. Seuss and reading go hand in hand. The popular children’s book author, Theodor Seuss Geisel, was born March 2, 1904. He was an American children's author, political cartoonist, illustrator, poet, animator, screenwriter and filmmaker. He is known for his work writing and illustrating more than 60 books under the pen name Dr. Seuss.

Children and teachers at Nevis School dressed up as various characters from the Dr. Seuss books as part of their “Read Across America” celebration the first week of March.

Students raced to see which grade could read the most minutes. The competition was divided into grades K-2 and 3-5.

In grades K-2, kindergarten finished in first place with 17,120 minutes, followed by second grade in second place with 13,100 minutes and first grade in third place with 12,989 minutes.

In grades 3-5, grade four came in first with 20,140 minutes, with fifth grade close behind with 20,092 minutes. Third graders read a total of 13,118 minutes.
