Park Rapids Area High School hosted a Business Professionals of America (BPA) contest Wednesday, and several members of the Park Rapids chapter earned a trip to the state competition.

Visiting schools participating in Wednesday’s contest included Blackduck, Henning, Menahga, Sebeka, Detroit Lakes, Wadena-Deer Creek, Underwood and New York Mills.

Park Rapids students placing first in their categories were Kate Aukes, basic office systems and procedures; Sam Reish, computer modeling; Kaelan Emerson, personal financial management; Jada Renneberg, presentation management individual; and the financial analyst team of Emerson, Renneberg and Braeden Berg.

Placing second were Emily Schulz, business law and ethics; Caitlin Kalita, fundamental accounting; Maddie Soldwisch, medical office procedures; the administrative support team of Schulz and Kelsey Berghuis; and the small business management team of Soldwish, Ellie Ulvin and Lane Monaghan.

Taking third place were Berghuis, banking and finance; Kassidy Ennen, basic office systems and procedures; Noel Skadberg, economic research project; and Zach Van Batavia, presentation management individual.

Placing fourth were Dan Walsh, advanced accounting; Marcus Benson, fundamental spreadsheet applications; and Berg, payroll accounting.

Ennen also placed fifth in fundamental word processing.

Business teacher Angie Kuehn, the club’s adviser, acknowledged the school administration, community members who served as judges, high school teachers and custodians, students in the hospitality and event planning class, Park Rapids BPA members and BPA Region President Kindra Peterson of Underwood, who all helped make the day run smoothly.

“This was the first year we have hosted the event,” said Kuehn, “and we hope we will be able to do it again next year. All of our judges were excellent, and we thank them for sharing their expertise and time.”

She added that a visiting student said it was “awesome to have fun activities like ping pong to fill their down time.”

The state BPA contest is scheduled for March 5-7 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Minneapolis.
