Driver accused of using Facebook in fatal crash set to plead guilty

  HILLSBORO, N.D. - A Hatton driver accused of killing a great-grandmother in a high-speed car crash during which the younger woman was allegedly on Facebook is set to plead guilty. Attorneys said Friday that Abby Elaine Sletten is set to enter a guilty plea on April 22 in Traill County District Court in connection with the May 2014 crash that killed Phyllis Gordon, 89. Court records say the car Gordon was riding in was stopped on I-29 trying to make an illegal U-turn when Sletten's car rear-ended it while going 85 mph. Sletten was looking through Facebook on her cellphone at the time of the crash, according to court records. Bruce Quick, Sletten's defense attorney, declined to comment on the specifics of the case, other than to say Sletten would not be pleading to the original charge of Class C felony negligent homicide.
