Drive safely as construction completion nears

Road construction seems to be a never-ending headache but soon one of the biggest projects, Highway 34 through Park Rapids, should be wrapping up after two summers of work.

Once this project is completed, Park Rapids will be easier to navigate through, especially during the busiest summer months. It will be safer for everyone.

It seems that most drivers have been courteous and safe during the construction, and we encourage them to continue being patient.

It will be well worth the wait.

The reconstruction of state Highway 34 will significantly relieve congestion through town as well as improve the condition and safety of the roadway.

Sometimes we have to wait for good things to come to fruition.

It was a grueling two years but we can already see that when it is completed, drivers will feel safer and be able to travel through town more easily.

Construction crews said during their bi-monthly progress meeting Thursday that paving will begin on Wednesday and the end of the project is nearing, with a possible end date of Nov. 8.

The bituminous paving will take about two weeks to finish, according to information from the meeting. During these next few weeks, we want to remind people to be extra careful while driving.

Be considerate of the crews and let trucks cut in when they need to. It may speed up the completion date, which we would all like to see.

We've all gotten used to planning on a few extra minutes to get from place to place in town. Just a few more short weeks and we'll see the completed project.
