Construction is moving along on schedule in downtown Park Rapids.

Work began on underground utilities and boardwalks are in place along side streets. Granite inlays are being installed on corners along Main Avenue. The inlays show area lakes and list the individual or organization that donated the marker.

"We got news that benches, bike racks and trash bins are on their way," said city engineer Jon Olson.

He reported nothing new for the long range schedule, with everything on track.

"The businesses close to the construction should make sure to 'earthquake proof' merchandise," he said.

Crosswalk signs have been placed on Highway 71 to remind drivers to stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk.

He has received some complaints from people who miss the drive up post office box. Olson said he will talk to the postmaster to see if there is somewhere in town a box could be placed. A temporary mail drop box is located on Highway 71 at the Post Office for now.

The tentative completion date for Phase two is June 30.

Parking is available along Main Avenue and along Highway 71 and Pleasant Avenue. City parking lots are also available.

Weekly construction meetings will be held at 8 a.m. Thursdays at Bella Caffé. The next meeting is Thursday, May 12.
