Douglas Norcross Sr.

Douglas Norcross Sr. 61, of White Earth died Friday, Oct. 13 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.

He was born Aug. 16, 1945 to Walter Emery and Maxine Norcross in White Earth. He was adopted by George and Josephine Norcross. He was raised in Pine Point and graduated from Park Rapids High School in 1963. He was stationed in Italy while serving in the US Navy. After his discharge he moved to Minneapolis where he worked as a machinist for Shamrock and for the American Indian Center, retiring in 1991. He moved to Detroit Lakes and attended Detroit Lakes Technical College. In 1996, he moved to White Earth.

He is survived by his companion of 33 years, Karen Norcross; mother, Maxine Norcross; three daughters, Cheryl and April Norcross, both of White Earth, and Valerie Whitebird of Summerset, WI; son, Douglas Norcross Jr. of White Earth; five brothers, Francis Norcross of Tower, David (Bessie) Norcross of Seward, AK, Frank (Lori) Jr., Joseph and Harlan Bigbear, all of Minneapolis; two sisters, Sandra (Gene) Libby of White Earth and Katherine (Darrow) Bigbear of Frazee; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father; adoptive parents; son, Marcell; and a great-grandson.

Visitation: 4 p.m. (today) Wednesday until the time of the service on Thursday at the Old Pine Point School in Ponsford, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today.

Mass of Christian Burial: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19 at St. Theodore's Catholic Church in Ponsford.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery in White Earth.
