Detroit Lakes woman gets prison time for drug possession

According to court records, in May of 2007 she was found with eight Clonazepam pills in her purse, after officers responded to her residence in Detroit Lakes on the report of a possibly suicidal woman.

Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine derivative with highly potent anticonvulsant, muscle relaxant, and anti-anxiety properties.

The tiny blue pills were in a prescription bottle that was not in her name.

On Tuesday, Becker County District Judge Peter Irvine executed a sentence of 12 months and one day in prison, at the defendant's request. With credit for time served, she will spend about four months in prison.

She was also sentenced to 15 months in prison, execution of sentence stayed five years, on a felony theft of property charge.

On Feb. 12 she stole two purses from employees in the back room of the Country Store in Osage. The total value of the stolen items was $1,164. She was caught on surveillance video.

She was fined $50 plus court fees and ordered to pay $1,924 in restitution in that case, to be taken from prison earnings.

A felony charge of escape from custody was dismissed in a plea agreement.

According to court records, in late July, she left a residential treatment program in Willmar after about 50 days without staff approval, and did not return to jail or contact her probation officer.
