Detroit Lakes man gets jail time for fleeing officer

A felony charge of fourth-degree assault on a correctional employee, and gross misdemeanor charges of obstructing a peace officer with violence and third-degree DWI, test refusal, were dropped in a plea agreement.

According to court records, at about 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 30, a trooper on County Road 17 attempted to pull his vehicle over for erratic driving.

Score failed to stop and sped off at speeds of 70-80 mph in a 45 mph zone for about a mile, when he turned into a driveway and stopped. He tried to hide under a duffel bag in the back area of the vehicle, and screamed and fought with officers when they arrested him.

He appeared before District Judge Peter Irvine, who stayed imposition of sentence and placed him on supervised probation for four years. He must serve 60 days in jail, with credit for four days served. Work release privileges were granted, as was a furlough for outpatient treatment. He can do Sentencing to Service work in lieu of a $500 fine, plus court fees.

He must abstain from drugs and alcohol, follow the recommendations of a chemical use assessment, and if recommended by his probation officer, have a mental health evaluation.

He was fined another $500 on the remaining charge, and sentenced to 60 days in jail, to be served concurrently.
