Nevis Boy Scout Troop 56 has announced the winners of a fishing tournament held during the first two weeks of May.

“The goal,” said Scoutmaster Chris Davis, “was to catch the longest crappie and sunfish and to catch the most of both species. Several members of the Troop participated and entered fish in the contest. The weather was cold and fishing was a little tough, but several fish were entered.”

Ward Davis landed the biggest crappie (10 inches) and the biggest sunfish (9 inches). Will Gagnon won the trophy for the most fish entered with two crappies and eight sunfish.

“This has been a trying year for the boy Scouts, as it has for everyone, due to the coronavirus pandemic,” said Davis. “These boys are trying to stay active while adhering to the social distancing and safety requirements that are part of our lives right now.”

Davis said they hope to have a bass fishing tournament this summer, provide opportunities to earn merit badges, and have activities “to get the boys outside and doing what Boy Scouts do.”

“We are very appreciative of the parental and community support we receive,” he said.
