Those big lime green boxes in area parking lots are supporting disabled veterans.
The bins are located in Park Rapids, Nevis, Akeley, Walker, Sebeka and Osage. They collect gently used clothing, sheets, towels, shoes and small household items.
Here are the specific sites:
n L&M Fleet Supply and West Side Auto in Park Rapids
n T&M Express in Nevis
n The VFW Club in Akeley
n The Walker Home Center in Walker
n City Hall in Sebeka
n SWI Enterprises in Osage.
During April, you can call 218-652-4160 to have clothing and other items picked up, if you’re not near a bin.
April 16 and17, there will be a trailer at Ace Hardware in Park Rapids to collect household items and clothing.
Chapter 38 of the Disabled American Veterans is behind the collection efforts and thanks the public for its support.
DAV member Will Ryther reported that the DAV van acquired last year has already taken 117 passengers to the VA Hospital in Fargo for medical appointments, driving 16,143 miles with 616 volunteer hours.
“This makes a difference getting veterans to the VA,” Ryther said.
