Dale Olof Espel, 80, of Princeton, IL died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007 at Perry Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 10, 1927 in Princeton to Olof and Amy (Polson) Espel. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1944 and was in the US Navy during World War II. After the war he attended the University of Illinois.

He married Shirley Venell Feb. 11, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Kewanee, IL. He farmed in the Princeton area and later worked for the Farm Bureau as a manager in Kane and Menard counties.

He was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau, an active member of First Lutheran Church of Princeton and an associate member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. He also helped at the Closet in Princeton and delivered for Meals on Wheels.

He is survived by his children, Larry (Cynthia Hasselbusch) of Minneapolis, Mary Lynne (Kenneth) Payne of Maine, Amy (Gary) Haut of Lockport, IL, Timothy (Ann) of Hampshire, IL, Thomas (Carolyn) of Fargo and Susan (James) English of Bolingbrook, IL; sister, Doris Carlson of Princeton; and 16 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dec. 5, 2007; sisters, Julia Espel, Jeannette Townsend, Ina (Lane) Schwingle and Iva Hawkins; and a brother, Lloyd.

Funeral: Friday, Dec 28 at First Lutheran Church of Princeton with Pastor Norman Femrite and Rev. Barbara Ollila officiating.

Interment: Oakland Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to the First Lutheran Church in Princeton.
