Man charged with felony after Facebook post allegedly threatening White Earth secretary-treasurer
A Mahnomen man has been charged with making terroristic threats, a felony, for a Facebook post that allegedly threatened White Earth Secretary-Treasurer Alan Roy.
Michael Floyd Keezer, 53, was charged Monday in Mahnomen County District Court.
According to court records, On Nov. 29, White Earth Police Department Lt. Jeremy Cossette received a call from Roy that he had become aware of threats allegedly made against him by Keezer.
The officer reviewed the messages, which were allegedly made on Keezer’s Facebook account under the name Mike Keez.
There were several posts concerning the White Earth Band’s political state and the fact that Keezer did not feel that Roy should be secretary-treasurer of the band. After several post about politics, there was allegedly a post that said “Shoot the f...er”
A tribal officer went to Keezer’s residence and asked him if he had a social media account on Facebook. Keezer stated that he did.
Lt. Cossette then spoke to Roy, who said that Keezer has been posting negative comments about him and his family for quite some time. Roy also said that this was the first threat he was aware of, and that he was concerned about the post and felt threatened.
On Monday, District Court Judge Anne Rasmusson signed an order of detention for Keezer.
In a news conference via Facebook Live on Monday, Roy said that he and his family have received threats and harassment from four individuals over the past 140 days.
“I will not repeat the words of racism and hatred my wife and children have suffered,” Roy says, “Violence and threats are never the answer. No person deserves to live in fear, and no person deserves to be targeted because of their race or faith.”
Two of these incidents occurred Nov. 29 and Nov. 30, Roy said.
One alleged harasser has already received a restraining order, while Roy is calling out for two more individuals to receive restraining orders as well.
Shortly after the alleged Facebook threat was posted, a second man “criminally harassed my wife and children ages 5, 7, and 9,” Roy said at the news conference. “The police cited the matter. With this incident, I will ask for a restraining order against this individual as he made documented threats against myself and my father earlier this year.”
A third man who has spoken to the media about Michael Keezer’s arrest “threatened to choke me and put an axe through my head this past summer,” Roy said. “Since that incident, an active restraining order against (the third man) was placed. Unfortunately, the harassment has continued and he has ignored that order. He has chosen to directly involve himself with these new threats.”
Keezer did not immediately respond to a Facebook message asking for comment and Roy did not immediately return a phone message Monday.
