County approves LEC occupation

The Hubbard County Board has approved a certificate of occupation for the new Law Enforcement Center.

Jailer Sherri Klassen and Sheriff Gary Mills informed the board Wednesday that the Department of Correct-ions has recommended occupancy.

Only minor finishing touches are left on the facility, Mills said.

"There is no reason for us not to take the jail over," chairman Floyd Frank said.

The board also approved for the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) a change order of $22,451; the purchase of pillows and mattresses for $4,500; $2,980 for completion of the child protection interview room; and the purchase of 13 TVs.

The total project so far with contractor Meinecke-Johnson Co. has cost the county approximately $7.45 million.

In other business, the board:

n Approved for the Sheriff's Department the purchase of two mobile radios at $3,670, two squad car lightbars for $2,660 and a mobile vision in-squad video camera for $3,300.

n Learned from county coordinator Jack Paul that Mike Carroll, Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regional director, will make an announcement March 13 about the finalization of the ATV trails. Paul said trail manager Dick Kimball estimates signs will be placed during the summer for fall designations being complete.

The DNR also wishes to meet with some of the commissioners, Martineau Trail and DNR trail representatives March 22 or 29 to discuss future grant requirements for the trail.

n Approved the final plats of JSC Plat, three parcels within shoreland jurisdiction of Lake George in Lake George Township, developed by Gary Sperl, and Utley Point, four parcels within shoreland jurisdiction of Midge Lake in Farden Township, developed by Harold Finn.

n Set tentative dates for the county's biennial five-year construction plan meetings, 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 12 at the courthouse and 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 19 at Lake George Township Hall.

n Granted land commissioner Bob Hoffman permission to sign and implement a $246,000 reforestation grant with the DNR. The grant will help reforestation efforts for jack pine budworm harvested.
