A 19-month-old boy was hospitalized after a family dog bit him in the face Sunday afternoon about nine miles south of Hawley, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Department.
The dog, an American bulldog, was impounded.
"Anytime there's a dog bite, we take the animal to the F-M Animal Hospital, which we contract as our pound," said Sgt. Ryan Alderman. "Generally we have a 10-day observation."
Alderman said he believes the dog was vaccinated. The dog's owner, Henry Herrold, had never had problems with the dog before, Alderman said.
The child who was bit was Herrold's son. A condition report was not available for the child.
