One man was sentenced Monday in Hubbard County Court for his part in stealing copper from a local lumber mill. One of his accomplices skipped court and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Roderick John Goose, 47, of Walker, and Jeffrey Allen Goose, 28, of Cass Lake, were each charged with two counts of felony theft, one count of felony third-degree burglary and two counts of felony first-degree damage to property after a traffic stop led to their arrests in August.
The Goose’s were found to be in possession of copper that had been taken from the Ainsworth Lumber Mill in Farden Township, according to court documents. Both men pleaded guilty to the burglary charge Sept. 29 in Hubbard County Court.
Roderick Goose was convicted of one count of felony third-degree burglary and sentenced to a year and a day in prison which was stayed for five years. He must serve 60 days local confinement in the Hubbard County Jail. Roderick Goose has been placed on five years supervised probation and must pay $200 in fines and $102,360 in restitution.

Since Jeffrey Goose failed to appear at a court hearing Monday, a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
A third occupant was in the truck when the Goose’s were arrested. Nicole Ashley Clark, 25, of Cass Lake, faces identical charges of theft, burglary and damage to property. Clark has yet to enter a plea, she is scheduled for a court hearing Monday.
