Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports that on 9-19-2013, at approximately 10:30 AM, the Sheriff’s Office received a request for assistance from a DNR Conservation Officer who had come in contact with several suspicious parties on a walking trail in the Longville area. The Officer detained 4 parties and 1 male party fled the scene. Deputies and Investigators arrived and located several items of suspected stolen property and vehicles. Property and vehicles at the scene matched descriptions from several area burglaries in the Walker, Backus, Hackensack and Longville areas. Stolen items included trailers, construction tools, ATVS, Utility Vehicles and household items. Subsequent investigation discovered additional burglaries and recovered stolen property. Three female suspects and one male suspect were arrested and transported to the Cass County Detention Center.
On 9-21-2013 in a collaborative effort between the Cass and Hubbard County Sheriff’s Offices, a search warrant was conducted at a residence in rural Akeley. Hundreds of additional stolen property items were recovered, including a boat and construction tools. Another male party was taken into custody and transported to the Hubbard County Detention Center.
The Cass County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by officers from the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, MN Department of Natural Resources, MN State Patrol, Longville Police Department and US Forest Service.
