A man was charged with first-degree burglary in Wadena County District Court after a confrontation with a woman, allegedly over money.

On July 27, a Wadena sheriff's deputy was called to an alleged assault on 129th Avenue in Wadena County. The victim reported a man had come up in a white van and came to the door, demanding money. He allegedly pushed the woman in the breezeway of the house and fled when police were called by the woman's boyfriend.

The suspect, Nichael Daniel Hale, 31, was located and interviewed by a deputy, court document said. Hale told investigators he had gone to the house because the victim had stolen $80 and cigarettes from him. He was asked why he didn't call police for help with the theft and he said he didn't need to. The defendant denied hitting the woman, and said he had only argued about the money and cigarettes.

Hale was set for his first appearance on Aug. 11. Hale's hometown was not noted in court records.
