A Brandon woman won $200,000 playing the Minnesota Lottery.
Here's how it happened: On June 25, Cindy Haabala cashed in three winning Lottery tickets and used that prize money to purchase three $200,000 Jackpot scratch-off tickets at Pete's County Market in Alexandria. She took the tickets home and scratched them while she was talking on the telephone. "I didn't have my glasses on and wondered, 'What's under the 8?' I got off the phone, put my glasses on and said, 'I can't believe it!' " She had just uncovered a $200,000 prize. Haabala claimed the prize at the Lottery headquarters in Roseville on July 16. The $200,000 Jackpot is a $10 scratch-off game that offers a $200,000 top prize. There are currently two of the three $200,000 prizes remaining to be claimed. The odds of winning the top prize are 1 in 325,700. Proceeds from the Minnesota State Lottery raise money for state programs. Since 1990, the general fund has received more than $1.3 billion to help fund education, public safety, health and human services and other programs.
