Blizzard-like conditions are expected throughout Hubbard County and the surrounding region by this afternoon. The National Weather Service is advising no travel.

Winds are expected to pick up several new inches of snow and cause visibility problems, NWS indicates.

The area is under a winter storm watch, but meteorologists say that could be revised to a blizzard watch or warning, depending on the amount of snowfall and wind speeds that accumulate. Poor conditions are expected to last throughout today into Sunday.

As of 10 a.m. Saturday about three new inches of snow had fallen around Park Rapids, with up to five more inches possible. By tonight winds of up to 35 mph will make travel hazardous.

The NWS advises if you must travel, include a winter safety kit, make sure your cell phone is charged and let people know your destination. Call ahead to make sure your holiday event or church service has not been canceled.
