Bemidji-based Civil Air Patrol Northland Composite Squadron dispatched a team of 14 local Civil Air Patrol members late Monday night to assist in flooding relief efforts in the Fargo area.
Members were given about six hours lead time to prepare for the mission. Each member brought a 24-hour pack with emergency services gear, food and water for a day and a 72-hour pack with extra clothes, winter gear, rain gear, food for three days, mat and sleeping bag.
The late-night trip took several hours longer than expected because of impassible or closed roads into the Fargo area. The three officers and 10 cadets who will help fill the estimated 2 million sandbags around the Red River.
