Backus man charged in sex crimes with woman

BY Sarah smithssmith@parkrapidsenterprise.com An omnibus hearing has been set in the case of a Backus man facing nine counts of domestic violence against an Akeley woman.
Akeley Police Chief Jimmy Hanson investigated the case, which allegedly included forced sex and abusive behavior. Cody Dean Sorenson, 28, faces two counts of Third Degree Criminal Sexual Conduct involving sexual penetration by use of force on or about May 31 and June 1. Each of those charges is punishable by a maximum of 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine. Sorenson is also charged with three counts of Domestic Assault by Strangulation, each punishable by a maximum of three years in prison and/or a $1,000 fine and four counts of Domestic Assault – Intentionally Inflicts Bodily Harm on another. Those four charges are alleged to have occurred between May 25 and May 31. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine upon conviction.
