Arthur "Art" Benjamin Samuelson, 86, of Menahga died Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.

He was born Jan. 7, 1921 to Benjamin and Sophie (Nevala) Samuelson in Blueberry Township, north of Menahga. He grew up on his parents' farm in Paddock Township of East Ottertail County, southwest of Menahga, and attended country school. As a young man, he farmed with his parents.

He married Violet Lempola March 9, 1946. They operated a dairy farm in East Ottertail Township. In 1968, they sold the farm and moved into Menahga. He worked with Martin's Farm Service in Menahga, custom spraying for area farmers, spraying roadside ditches, white washing barns, etc.

He was a member of the Sebeka and the former Runeberg Apostolic churches.

He is survived by his children, Roy (Beverly) of Hawley, Robert of Menahga, Mary (Richard) Vos of Harwood, ND and Sharon (Jeff) Byron of Fargo; brother, Harry (Audrey); two sisters, Ruth Samuelson of Menahga and Florence (Wesley) Hillukka of Albertville; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Richard in 1984, three brothers and four sisters.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service.

Funeral: 1 p.m. today (Saturday) at the Sebeka Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Art Skoog officiating. The organist will be Janet Mattson. Congregational hymns will be "When Bells Start Their Tolling," "Nearer My God to Thee" and "How Great Thou Art."

Casketbearers: Roy and Arnold Samuelson, Richard Vos, Greg Lempola, Kenneth Koskela and Dick Siltala.

Interment: Menahga City Cemetery. Lempi Roiko and Elaine Skoog will sing, "There's a Land That is Fairer than Day."
