For the second year, art lovers can use a map to find their way to area studios and workshops. Also on the "Leap" will be an afternoon of performances, an exhibit at an art museum and group art show in Park Rapids.

Beautiful Native crafts and foods produced on the White Earth Reservation will be found at Native Harvest and Minwanjige Café at the Strawberry Lake Corner near Ogema.

The North Country Museum of Arts in Park Rapids will be exhibiting its permanent collection of European Old Master paintings and regional artwork.

White Birch Artists will be showing their work, a variety of watercolor and oil, pastels and mixed media.

Park Rapids-Nevis-Akeley area artists who will be participating are: Paul Albright, wood and metal sculpture; Sandy Fynboh, Blue Sky Beads, handmade glass beads and glass-blowing demonstrations; Roger Kast, contemporary works on canvas and paper, Ray Wattenhofer, landscapes in oil and limited edition prints; Gary and Marsha Wolff, mosaics, pottery, painting, drawing and sculpture; and Terri Young, original watercolors and pastels, pottery, jewelry and more by area artists.

On the path from Itasca State Park's new Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center to the celebrated Headwaters, Jeff Savage's bronze sculpture is a jewel. Commissioned in 2005, "Heartwaters - Caretaker Woman" was inspired by Anishinaabeg beliefs that woman is traditionally "keeper of the waters."

Various musical presentations are scheduled during the Art Leap.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. unless otherwise noted. All sites are free and open to the public. (You will need a park sticker to get into Itasca State Park.)

Art Leap 2007 is sponsored by the Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council and North Country Museum of Arts in Park Rapids. Call the museum at 237-5900 or e-mail ncma@unitelc.com for more information and maps.
