Alina E. Niemela
Alina Elizabeth Niemela, 91, of Menahga died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.
She was born Feb. 15, 1915 to Benjamin and Sophia (Nevala) Samuelson in Ottertail County. She attended school at White Oak Dist. 216 and Menahga.
She married Edwin Niemala Feb. 12, 1933. They lived in Detroit until 1942 when they purchased a farm in Becker County. In 1965, they moved to McKinley and returned to Menahga in 1967.
She was a member of Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church and worked at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home.

She is survived by four daughters, Joyce Harmala of Howell, MI, Mary Ann (Douglas) Haverinen of Sebeka, Edith (Roger) Kinnunen of Hawley and Susan Meyer of Fergus Falls; three sons, James (Hildie), Robert (Carol) and Brent (Rina), all of Menahga; 31 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, son-in-law, three brothers, three sisters, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral: Friday, Oct. 27 at Runeberg Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Art Skoog officiating.
Honorary casketbearers: Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Active casketbearers: Linda Mattson, Laurie Hamilton, Kim Schreiner, Barbara Myers, Jeanne Hoemberg and Jodie Haverinen.
Interment: Mantyla Cemetery.
