Alfred Walter Maisio, 72, of Cass Lake died Monday, Oct. 9, 2006 at his home from cancer.

He was born Dec. 28, 1933 to Walter and Irene (Anderson) Maisio at home near Osage. At age 2 his father died. His mother married Charles Yliniemi and they moved near the Wolf Lake area and he attended country school. He attended high school in Detroit Lakes. He moved to Duluth where he worked for Jeno's Pizza and logged in the north woods. He moved to the Twin Cities where he worked on the construction of the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

He married Mary "Millie" Dormanen of Ponsford Feb. 11, 1961. He worked for Honeywell Corp. in Minneapolis and owned and operated a lawn care service. He also attended night classes earning his general contractors license. For more than 18 years, he worked for Martin Homes in Minneapolis. He lived in Lino Lakes. In the mid-70s they moved to the iron range where he worked for MinnTac Mining Co. for 10 years, living near Zim. He started the PineWood General Construction Co. In 1986, they moved to Cass Lake where he continued in the construction business. After retiring from con-struction he drove school bus for Cass Lake-Bena School District for 18 years. He later ran his own independent school bus company.

He was a member of the Twin Cities Radio Club, where he was known as "Little Fin." He held a FCC radio license for emergency communications with the radio call of KAOEPP. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cass Lake.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda M. (Leonard) Maisio-Anderson of Wadena and Drenda M. (Jesse) Evans of Cass Lake; two grandchildren, LaRissa and Jerod, who they adopted; two brothers, Hugo (Geri) Yliniemi of Dennison and Glenn (Lynette) Yliniemi of Wolf Lake; three sisters, Eleanor Yliniemi of Park Rapids, Leatrice (Lyle) Byboth of Apple Valley and Janet Yliniemi of Eden Prairie; four grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife in July 2006; son, Darin; parents; and brother, Elmer.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral: 1 p.m. today (Saturday) at Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church in Wolf Lake with Revs. Elmer Yliniemi and Peter Rosenkvist officiating. Deborah Aho will be the organist. Deborah and Patricia Aho will sing "Blessed As-surance" and "Rock of Ages." Congregational hymns will be "Amazing Grace," "How Great Thou Art" and "Just As I Am."

Honorary casketbearers: Andrea Salin, Crystal and Lindsay Anderson, LaRissa and Jarod Evans-Maisio, Michael Heinonen, Jeff Arola and Aaron Conklin.

Active Casketbearers: Anthony Salin, John Evans, Mark and Matthew Maisio, Clinton and Andy Yliniemi, Michel Stevens and Randy Conklin.

Interment: Snellman Cemetery.
