In the service world, drive-through lanes for food are common. Drive-through lanes for accounting are somewhat unique.

At the new building of Pederson, Smith, Roehl and Co., customers don't have to leave the car to drop off accounting information.

Owner Garnett Pederson said the new service has been well received by his customers.

"It makes things convenient for people," he said.

The accounting and bookkeeping firm moved into their new building at 511 Park Ave. So. last spring.

According to Pederson, the firm needed extra space for its expanded staff.

When the business moved into its last space in 1988, the firm employed three full-time staff. Now, Pederson said, six full-time employees work in the Park Rapids office.

The business offers comprehensive bookkeeping work for companies as well as tax filing for individuals, small businesses and corporations.

Many of his bookkeeping customers appreciate the ability to focus on other aspects of their business and the stability of a bookkeeping firm, he said.

The new building includes offices for three CPAs and two interview rooms. The basement area provides ample storage space for records accumulated over 29 years.

Construction began last September, said Pederson, but they were too busy to move until tax season was over in April. Pederson said the building still needs a few finishing touches. Future development plans include paving the parking lot and completing a privacy fence, but "for the most part, we are pretty much settled," he said.
