A Park Rapids couple were injured Friday, June 4 in a motorcycle crash involving a deer.

According to a press release from the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at 8:47 p.m. on County Road 4 in Clay Township.

Initial reports said a motorcycle had struck a deer and two people were badly injured, the release says. Arriving deputies found Hubbard First Response providing lifesaving care to Tim Pearson, 62, and Susan Bristlin, 51, of Park Rapids.

The couple owns Jones-Pearson Funeral Home.

Investigation showed that Pearson was driving south on County 4 on a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle, with Bristlin as his passenger, when a deer ran out in front of them.

Pearson attempted to maneuver around the animal but was unable to avoid a collision, the release states. The motorcycle tipped on its side and both Pearson and Bristlin were thrown from the bike.

North Memorial Health Ambulance transported both victims to the Park Rapids airport, where they were airlifted to Sanford Medical Center in Fargo. According to the release, Pearson sustained a serious head injury, and Bristlin received injuries to her ribs and lung.
