Park Rapids Area High School students promenaded in their finest gowns and suits Saturday.

The 2021 prom was coordinated by Spanish teacher Jamie Simon-Linkowitz, high school secretary Dotti Seifert and 10 juniors.

Simon-Linkowitz said the committee met once a week until the past month, then began meeting twice a week “with the knowledge that we might be cancelled at any time.”

“We had to be sure we were adhering to mask rules. We had to look at CDC guidelines for celebrations and crowd sizes,” she continued, adding the students were flexible and cooperative. “It was really awesome to see kids step up and be amazing leaders, especially during the decorating day.”

Students – including non-committee members – decorated the entire auditorium by themselves, Simon-Linkowitz said.

Organizing prom was a first for both Simon-Linkowitz and Seifert because last year’s was cancelled due to the pandemic. “It was the prom that never was,” Simon-Linkowitz said.

Looking at two beautifully decorated spaces made the effort worthwhile, she added.

A limited number of tickets were available for family members to watch the grand march.

Afterward, a sit-down, catered dinner was served to nearly 80 couples.
