Jerry Nesland, former Menahga and New Yorks Mills superintendents, has recently been named executive director of the Freshwater Education District with offices in Wadena and Staples, Minn.
The Freshwater district is a 13-school district joint-powers unit, including NY Mills and Perham, that provides alternative learning center (ALC) services, special education staff, community education, teacher training, and other services to the central Minnesota member schools.
Most recently, Nesland is completing a one-year superintendent contract in Mahnomen. Prior to that, Jerry served three years as superintendent of Menahga (2006-2009), one year as superintendent of Mahnomen (2005-2006), and three years (2002-2005) as executive director of the Northwest Service Cooperative in Thief River Falls.
Before the NWSC position, Jerry was the New York Mills superintendent for 16 years. Jerry and his wife, Jeri, live on Round Lake south of Perham.
Nesland starts his Freshwater duties July 1.
