One dies; two injured in Walker crash Tuesday afternoon
A Minneapolis man has died following a two-vehicle accident on Highway 371 north of Walker.
The accident, around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, claimed the life of Roy R. Lovelace, 49, a passenger in a southbound Chrysler PT Cruiser that crossed the centerline of the highway, striking a Dodge Dakota head on.
The driver of the Cruiser, 25-year-old Richard R. Norton, of Cass Lake, was airlidted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. A nursing supervisor listed him in critical but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday morning.
The driver of the Dodge Dakota, which was northbound on the curved section of highway near the Walker Airport, and was hauling a trailer. He was not seriously injured. He was identified as 29-year-old Chris E. Larson of Atwater. The State Patrol said he declined treatment at the scene.
The accident tied up traffic on the highway. Emergency personnel had to block the roadway for more than an hour to allow medivac helicopters to land.
Minnesota State Patrol and Cass County personnel responded to the crash scene. The accident remains under investigation.
