Hubbard County 4-H members earned a variety of honors at this year’s Minnesota State Fair, including a team purple ribbon in Minnesota Meats and a champion swine.

“They did very well with the swine project,” said Lily Crume, interim program coordinator with the Hubbard County Extension. “Their general exhibits also did very well. They received a lot of blue ribbons. We’re very proud of how Hubbard County presented itself at the State Fair. There were a lot of successes.”

Hubbard County 4-H awards at the Minnesota State Fair were as follows:

Beef: Bradley Stenger (8th, Showmanship participant).

Goats: April Snook (Red, Showmanship Red), Henry Thorson (Blue), Isabelle Brakke (Red), Maddyson Brakke (Red).

Minnesota Meats Poultry: Marley Mitchell, Allison Offerdahl and Megan Offerdahl (Green, Minnesota Meats Purple Ribbon team).

Minnesota Meats Rabbits: Breanna DeBlieck, Pierce DeBlieck, Naomi Knaack and Jordyn Novak (Green).

Minnesota Meats Sheep: Mallory Kowalke, Samuel Kluck, Blake Kowalke and Henry Thorson (Green).

Chickens: Mallory Kowalke (Red, Interview finalist).

Ducks: Blake Kowalke (Red).

Turkey: Samuel Kluck (Blue).

Illustrated Presentation: Isaac Knaack (Red for an illustrated talk describing what to plant to attract pollinators).

Rabbits: Pierce DeBlieck (Purple, Intermediate Showmanship 3rd), Naomi Knaack (Red), Breanna DeBlieck (Blue), Jordyn Novak (Blue).

Clothing & Textiles: Breanna DeBlieck (Blue for one outfit of bought clothes and a three-ring binder).

Crafts & Fine Arts: Isaac Knaack (Blue for a chess set made from found junk), Ava Etzler (Blue for a pointillist painting of a night sky), Johnna Krabbenhoft (Blue for a charcoal drawing of a kitten and its mother dog).

Entomology: Blake Kowalke (Blue for a tri-fold display about the honey bee).

Flower Gardening: Naomi Knaack (Red for a turtle sculpted from chicken wire, plants and moss), Miriam Knaack (Red for a washtub filled with flowers).

Foods & Nutrition: Mallory Kowalke (Blue for a Chinese meal).

Home Environment: Sylvia Hill (Red for a blue metal chair), Charity Kern (Red for a lighted frame with a play poster).

Needle Arts: Justine Karvonen (Blue for a crocheted turtle).

Performing Arts: Isabelle Brakke (Blue for jazz dance).

Photography: Caitlin Kalita (Blue for a photo of a husky).

Photo Manipulation: Evan Booge (Blue for a collage of star trails).
