A motorcycle driver and passenger were injured Monday in a motorcycle crash in Guthrie Township. Neither occupant was wearing a helmet at the time.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the accident occurred at 2:59 p.m. July 8 when a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by Norman Allan Salverson, 72, of Erskine was northbound on U.S. Hwy. 71 north of County Road 118.
As a southbound funeral procession approached, a semi truck with trailer moved to the shoulder for the procession. The Harley swerved around the semi to the right and entered the ditch, jumped a driveway approach, struck a mailbox and landed on its side.
Salverson was transported to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. His passenger, Shirley Dela-cruz Uang, 59, of Scottsdale, Ariz., sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to Sanford Bemidji.
Personnel with the Hubbard County Sheriff's Office, Red Lake Tribal Police Department and Bemidji Ambulance Service responded to the crash scene.
