Donations needed to make July 4 fireworks memorable
A quintessential part of Park Rapids' Fourth of July celebration — the spectacular fireworks display over the Fishhook River — is solely funded by donations from area businesses and individuals.
The Park Rapids Rotary Club sponsors fireworks show each year, and Rotarian Sue Tomte is leading the fundraising drive for 2019. The goal is $35,000, but to date, only $15,079 has been raised, she said.
Rotary President Scott Hewitt sent a letter to 800-plus community members and visitors who have contributed to the fireworks fund in previous years.
"Independence Day is my favorite holiday of the year, and the celebration here in Park Rapids is second to none," Hewitt wrote. "As I reflect on some of the fireworks displays from my childhood, it is amazing to think about how much bigger and more spectacular the show has grown over the years. It's considered one of the 'biggest and best' Fourth of July fireworks displays in the state and one of our community's biggest events of the year — all made possible because of generous donations from people like you."
Contributions to the Park Rapids Rotary Foundation Fireworks Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization, are 100 percent tax-deductible.
"You can help celebrate our nation's birthday by being part of an event that will create lasting memories for everyone — old and young alike," Hewitt said.
Donations may be sent to Park Rapids Rotary Fireworks, P.O. Box 704, Park Rapids, MN 56470 or visit the Park Rapids Rotary Fireworks Fund Facebook page to make an online donation.
