Nevis Holiday Concert kicks off season
Nevis was the first area school to start the season of holiday concerts. On Monday evening, the small gym quickly filled with parents, grandparents and family friends. Extra chairs even had to be brought in to set on the sidelines for latecomers.
Kindergarteners kicked off the program, all smiles and waves, with songs about snow.
First graders followed with "Polar Puppy," "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" and "Run, Run, Rudolph." Second graders sang songs about Santa and third graders sang "Hip Hop Elves," "Christmas Bells are Ringing-Ringing" and "Frosty's Hand Jive."
The program concluded with the traditional carol "Silent NIght." All of the lights in the auditorium were dimmed, each child held a battery-operated candle, and the audience joined in the last verse.
Holiday concerts ahead include the Nevis High School band and choir concert at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10; Century Middle School choir concert at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10; Holiday concert for Nevis fourth through sixth graders at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11; and Century first and second grade concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.
