Veterinarians concluded the bear wouldn’t survive and it was humanely euthanized, the post said.

Police received reports of a bear near Industrial Park around 4:30 a.m. Monday. Although police tried to prevent the bear from heading toward town, it climbed a tree in University Park around 9 a.m. The bear got down and walked into a neighborhood before again settling into a tall tree in the park.

Police tranquilized the bear around 7 p.m. with help from The North Dakota Game and Fish Department, Grand Forks Park District, wildlife specialists and a veterinarian from the Red River Zoo.

Officers secured one of the animal’s legs and it was lowered to the ground using a crane-type machine.
