UPDATE: Authorities identify Bemidji man found dead in fish house at Eel Pout Festival

A 21-year-old Bemidji man was found dead Sunday, Feb. 25, in a fish house on Leech Lake. Authorities identified the victim as Samuel Schooley, 21.

The Cass County Sheriff's Office received a report at 8:52 a.m. of an unresponsive man in a fish house at the Eel Pout Festival. Deputies responded, and the man was taken to CHI St. Joseph's Health in Park Rapids, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

His body was sent to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, which is pending. The incident remains under investigation.

Sunday was the last day of the International Eelpout Festival on Leech Lake, which routinely draws more than 10,000 people to Walker during a four-day period.
