The Hubbard County Food Shelf received a generous financial boost.
An $11,000 check arrived Monday.
The donor wishes to remain anonymous.
"What a wonderful, wonderful gift," said Bob Hansen, Hubbard County Food Shelf director.
After reading an Enterprise article about the food shelf's need to replace an obsolete freezer, the donor called Hansen. Parts were no longer available for the current walk-in freezer, and replacement cost was $12,000.
They visited over the phone for a few minutes, according to Hansen, then the man said, "I want to take care of this for you. I'll be sending a check."
Hansen ordered a new walk-in freezer, with delivery anticipated in four to six weeks.
"I thank the Lord every day when He takes care of us so we can help people in need," he said.
Friday, April 7 is the deadline for reporting donations to the food shelf, which are the basis for Minnesota FoodShare funding.
Donations may be sent to the Hubbard County Food Shelf at 308 Pleasant Ave. South, Park Rapids, 56470. Contact Hansen at 255-3538 to volunteer or for more information.
