The Park Rapids High School drama department took first place at the Minnesota State High School League 24A Sub-section One-Act Play competition Jan 23. Their performance of “4 A.M.,” written by Jonathan Dorf, earned them a trip to the Section 6A contest in Wadena Saturday, Jan. 30. “Park Rapids had their best performance to date on Saturday,” said Drama Director Juliann Kjenaas. Park Rapids has placed first at sub-sections since 2009. The public is invited to attend an open dress rehearsal Thursday, Jan. 28, held at the high school auditorium at 7 p.m. Set during the “magic hour” of 4 a.m., an ensemble of teens search for human connection through a series of interlaced scenes and monologues at a time the rest of the world is typically asleep. Laporte took second place with their production of “Mr. Flannery’s Ocean.” They will also head to sections.
