2 men caught with 136 pounds of marijuana in car in North Dakota
BISMARCK – Two Sacramento men are behind bars after North Dakota state troopers pulled them over with 136 pounds of marijuana in their car, highway patrol officials said Wednesday.
North Dakota Highway Patrol Lt. Greg Smith said a highway patrol trooper pulled over a Hyundai Elantra with Idaho license plates at around 1 p.m. Sunday east of Steele, N.D. on I-94 for a traffic violation.
The trooper became suspicious of criminal activity while speaking with the people in the car, Smith said, and performed a search that uncovered 136 pounds of marijuana.
Both the driver, Andrew Xiong, 22, and the passenger, Jerry Yang, 33, both of Sacramento, were arrested and taken to the Burleigh County Detention Center.
The Kidder County Sheriff’s Department and the local drug task force assisted, Smith said.
