35 arrested during 'relatively safe' Eelpout Festival

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports a relatively safe Eelpout Festival, despite frigid temperatures and severe wind chill conditions.

 

Sheriff Burch reports that the Sheriff’s Office handled approximately 150 calls for service resulting from incidents related to the Eelpout Festival held in Walker MN on Leech Lake from February 20-21, 2015.

 

A snowmobile crash was reported on Friday at approximately 6:54 PM. A snowmobile was traveling south on Walker Bay of Leech Lake when it hit a compacted snowdrift, throwing the driver and passenger from the machine. Two victims were transported by North Ambulance to Sanford Hospital in Bemidji with non-life threatening injuries.  The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

A fish house on fire was reported on Sunday at approximately 11:29 AM in Walker Bay.  The Walker Fire Department extinguished the fire and there were no injuries reported.

 

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office and its Toward Zero Death (TZD) partners, including the Minnesota State Patrol, Pike Bay Township PD, Walker PD, Longville PD, Pine River PD and Lake Shore PD arrested a total of 12 intoxicated drivers during the event. Many additional traffic citations were issued.

 

Preliminary activity reports show that approximately 35 individuals were arrested and booked at the Cass County Detention Center for charges including DUI, Disorderly Conduct, Assault, Burglary and Minor Consumption.
