Three people escaped serious injury in a two-vehicle broadside accident on U.S. Highway 2 in Crookston in a slow-speed zone Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol:
Ellsworth Sulerud, 84, Fertile, Minn., stopped on Sunset Avenue about 2:20 p.m., then pulled out onto U.S. Highway 2 in his 1997 Dodge Dakota pickup in front of Mark Laliberte, 69, of Grand Forks, who was driving north in a 2006 Hyundai car. It happened near Hugo's grocery store, south of the Dairy Queen, where the speed limit is 30 mph.
Sulerud and his passenger, Alva Sulerud, 79, also of Fertile, were treated and released from the hospital in Crookston. Laliberte was not injured.
Highway 2 is a four-lane, divided highway at that point, and the concrete roadway was dry.
