2 dead in semi-pickup accident near Fosston

Two people died after their pickup collided with a semi on County Road 6 in Fosston, Minn., on Monday.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office:

The accident happened about 2 p.m. Monday about two miles north of Fosston.

A semi-truck hauling beans to the Fosston Elevator was heading south on County Road 6 when it collided with a Chevrolet pickup heading north.

The impact caused the semi to jack-knife and slide into the east ditch. The truck came to rest on the edge of the roadway.

The pickup driver and passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver had no apparent injuries.

At the time of the accident, visibility was less than a half-mile and the road was snow covered and slippery.

The two victims were wearing their seat belts, and air bags deployed.

The names of the victims were withheld pending family notification.
