Hubbard County saw a foot to 18 inches of snow over the weekend, a bit more than the National Weather Service had forecast.
Schools were closed in Park Rapids, Menahga, Laporte and Nevis Monday while residents, trucks and road graders got to work, and many events and public meetings were canceled in the area.
Organizations were asking that people call ahead before setting out on slippery highways for an event that may have been postponed.
"That foot to 16 inches seems common," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Dave Kel-lenbenz. He said the Weather Service was still compiling totals and would be issuing a report later today.

He said he's heard snow totals of 18-22 inches in the Breckinridge area, but nothing official.
Visibility on the roads Monday was fairly good, but snow was piled up at intersections and on shoulders.
There will be a school board meeting tonight for Park Rapids at 6 p.m.
No travel was advised for northwest Minnesota due to blowing snow and limited visibiity.
